You’re engaged and you can’t wait to plan your wedding. The venue! The dress! The cake! Its gonna be so much fun! Wait, the budget….the questions, the doubts. Should I hire a wedding planner?
Maybe planning your big event is seeming a bit overwhelming. So can you get some help? Should you?
I’ve compiled a list of reasons why you should hire a wedding planner and 1 reason why you shouldn’t.
1– You are busy. It’s as simple as that. It takes time to set a budget, research vendors, go to meetings, choose the details and make the decisions. If that sentence alone makes you anxious…you should probably hire a planner.
2– You’ve never done this before. I mean more than likely this is your first wedding and the first time you are inviting 2-300 of your closest friends to a party you are hosting. An experienced wedding planner can answer all the questions you have and help you figure out how to make your ceremony and reception work for you and your guests. No matter how complicated or simple you want it to be having someone who’s done this before will help tremendously!
3-Your family is busy. “Oh but my sister/cousin/best friend, got married last year with out a planner and it turned out all right. I’ll just ask them for help.” Sure you can do that, granted they have done this before… once. But wouldn’t your family and friends enjoy just being guests? Would they like to be your bridsmaid? Great let them do the bridesmaid duties, not the wedding planner duties. What if your styles don’t match? What if you didn’t really like their caterer? Do you know what other caterers to try? Avoid conflicts by hiring an unbiased planner that can recommend vendors that will do what you want.
4-Truth time…It is overwhelming to plan a wedding. If you work, go to school, have a fiance, have a family, have a life, fitting wedding planning in is alot! How much time do you have for vendor meetings? How many meetings will it take to find the right one? What if they don’t answer their phone, and their prices aren’t on their website? Do you want to have to play phone tag with someone? Having an experienced planner working to find you the right vendors is valuable. Your time is valuable don’t waste it chasing down vendors who don’t fit. This will definitely overwhelm and frustrate you. Having someone help you stay organized and keep you on track will make your life easier.
5–Pinterest. Yep Pinterest is a reason to hire a wedding planner. Too many pins, too many boards, too many ideas. This leads to anxiety and overwhelm. Don’t get me wrong you can find amazing inspiration on Pinterest. You also can easily get overwhelmed with too much inspiration. A wedding planner can help take all those ideas and pick out what will really bring your vision to life. A wedding planner will help you find the right vendors at the right price to execute this vision.
6– Other vendors appreciate if you hire a planner. Your other vendors like to work with planners. Things are more organized, couples are calmer and happier. The day of the wedding they know who to contact for questions and they leave you alone so you can enjoy your day.
7– You can focus on whats important. I love weddings! Its what i do! But it’s one day. The goal of a wedding is to be married. The marriage is important. Getting stressed out over your wedding planning can strain your relationship. This relationship that you are vowing to be in the rest of your life. Hire a planner, help relieve the stress and keep your relationship the priority.
8-Things might not go perfectly. Who do you want to deal with this? Who knows how to deal with this? Your planner will fix any unexpected issues and you will be blissfully unaware and enjoy each moment of your day.
9-You want to stay on budget. First you may need help setting your budget. You need someone who knows the market to help you do this. Then you may be thinking a wedding planner is just an extra expense. However, a wedding planner can help you save money. Your planner will recommend the vendors that fit in your budget and fit your needs. They may even know vendors who will keep you under budget. Your wedding planner has the tools to stay organized and keep track of expenses, therefore keeping your budget in check.
10-Can you put a price tag on peace-of-mind? When you pay for a wedding planner you are paying for their experience and knowledge this is invaluable. Also you then have the peace of mind that your day will go as planned because you had expert help. You can truly focus on the important things of the day. No worries because you have everything covered and your planner is prepared for any little mishap.
I really could go on and on listing reasons why you should hire a wedding planner. Of course you are reading this post because you want to know the 1 reason why you shouldn’t.
So here it is: Don’t hire a wedding planner if you think that means you don’t have to do anything. If you do not want to do anything, do not have a wedding. As your planner I need your feedback and I need you to make decisions. If you do not care or do not want to make decisions, go to the justice of the peace. I want to plan your wedding with you NOT for you.
